[html] To celebrate VE6QEN obtaining her HAM CALL following 30 years of being kidded (hassled) and hopelessly pressured to become a ham, we have preserved the milestone on video. Sarina completely surprised me by taking the course and passing with an impressive 88% (she now claims she was only after a specific CALL). Most of you will understand that I thought I was only dreaming, hi hi. Our son Dennis VE6KDR congratulated her and figured it was an occasion and great subject for some humor to preserve on video. He sent us a shot list of instructions and dialogue for us to shoot the video clips and I electronically sent them, including the bloopers, to him in Ontario. Dennis edited and professionally produced the DVD, it is a humorous eight minute video celebrating the reason Sarina got her ham license.Â

It is with heavy hearts and boundless sadness that the family of Robert Allan “Al” Walker, Ret. Platoon Chief, Red Deer Emergency Services, announce his peaceful passing at the Red Deer Regional Hospital on Thursday January 14th, 2010, at the age of 68 years with his loving Karen by his side. Al was born and raised in the Barrhead, AB area. He spent his childhood on the family farm; hunting, trapping and farming. At the age of 19 years, Al moved to Red Deer, eventually working as a volunteer firefighter before joining the Red Deer Fire Department on July 1, 1965. He retired as a platoon chief in 1996 to pursue their dream. For 13 years he sailed and travelled the world, enjoying the countries, their people and the sport of spearfishing, reaching the Seychelle Islands in the Indian Ocean before his sailing journey ended. Al is survived and will be forever remembered by Karen, his loving wife and partner of 34 years, two sons; Cameron (Patti) and granddaughter Anastasia of Spruce Grove, AB, and Scott of Barrhead, AB. His memory will also be cherished by his mother Edna of Barrhead, AB, sister Dorothy (Barry) Martin of Grande Prairie, AB, and his brother Barry (Carolyn) of Rochfort Bridge, AB. Al was predeceased by his brother, Ronald; his father, Alex; his grandson, Perry; and granddaughter, Suzanne. A Memorial Service for the late Al Walker will be held on Wednesday January 20th, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. from the Harvest Centre, Westerner Park, 4847 A – 19th Street, Red Deer, A.B.
