Hello and a Question
on: April 9, 2017, 18:45

Hey Everyone,

I'm brand new on here and wanted to start off by saying hi. I wrote my basic exam last month and wanted to introduce myself.

I live in Spruce Grove but get down to Red Deer on weekends now and again and hope to stop in to A&W when able and wife permitting : ). I'd like to thank Garry for letting me write the last Basic exam. I'm still working on my first mobile install but am having issues. The mic I have for my newused Yaesu FT-2200 has a bad capacitor C5. I can trigger the repeaters but my modulation is extremely weak. I did call in to the local net once but they could barely hear me. So currently I have my mic apart. I think its cool having to use my way old electronics training and had fun de-soldering : ). I hope when I get it back together that the mic still works. I did have one pad lift off due to heat. My fault, still learning about heat control and use of the right amount of flux.

I was wondering, just in case, does anyone know where I could get a replacement mic MH-27? Not sure if anyone has a spare hanging around. I do have on order some capacitors, 1uf 50v but they won't get here for another 2 to 3 weeks. I will be in Red Deer this Friday and Saturday dropping off our trailer for maintenance (still under warranty), is there any good electronics stores there I could visit to get a few capacitors? I'm just eager to get transmitting and see how well my soldering turned out : ).

Thanks everyone and hello, when I get on the air I'll look into connecting to the Red Deer repeater, and will try my HT on the way down next Friday morning. I was at the Saturday morning coffee meet a few weeks back and everyone made me feel very welcome, great bunch of guys. I even found out that Mike was the same trade I was in the air force, talk about a small world.

Hi Bob,

Hi and thanks for the info. We'll be down Friday so I will check them out in case they are open. We have a store up here that stocks a lot but they close at 4:30pm and they are closed on weekends, kind of hard to get to after work. And if you want anything shipped even locally your looking at over $20 for even a very small package. I am missing Radio Shack : ) its too bad they closed. But amazon has been great. I got a soldering station and other components pretty quick. Anyway looking forward to saying hi some Saturday when I'm down that way.
