Field Day update 2023

The Field Day planning committee just met for a brief progress meeting.  The following issues came up
Thank you to all the hams  for offering your help to participate in another field day  the last weekend of June.   Brian VE6CKC has booked Hill Crest community center SW of Innisfail for the last weekend of June. Some of us met at the hall and we all agreed it is a great place for field day as it has a hall and an outdoor covered operating  area and lots of room for antenna separation.

Here is the link for directions

Exit off QEII just south of the refinery at Exit 357 and take the first ramp on your right. Turn left at the Stop sign. (Hwy 587 west). Go approximately 7 miles to RR22 South
Turn South on RR 22 ( there is a Hillcrest Hall sign ) and turn right at the Stop sign. The Hall is on your right. The address is 2206 TWP342.
Please note that you are responsible for providing your own meals , lawn chairs, mosquito spray, and any  other personal items you will need during field day operation.

Invitation to come and camp for the weekend for a small donation to the club.

Bring your own food and drinks.

Maybe a photo from last year for attention.

Field day will be a great opportunity to gather and work together as hams to communicate around the world. If we all do a small part to help field day will be a great experience for everyone involved as well as learning some new skills and getting more operating experience.
We look forward to a great couple of days working together!
Please let us know by e-mail of any ideas or additions you can think of to help us plan this field day.

Artemis 2 astronauts flying to the moon could phone home with ham radio

It’s been 40 years since the first astronaut called an amateur radio operator on Earth. Now the moon is in the community’s sights.

Most of the astronauts aboard the Artemis 2 mission, which will send a quartet of people around the moon in late 2024, are certified ham radio (amateur radio) operators. There’s high hopes in the community that the astronauts may call home from deep space, the president of Radio Amateurs of Canada told Space.com.

Ham radio operator jumps in to help woman

Ham radio operator jumps in to help woman in Florida during Hurricane Ian

From hundreds of miles away, a ham radio operator helped first responders find people stranded on a Florida island after Hurricane Ian hit.

The age-old communication made a difference for a woman who has family in the Susquehanna Valley.

With a language all their own, ham radio operators converse with people all over the world.

Dale Klonin, with the call sign KC3TAU, got into the hobby about a year ago.

“I found the fun aspect of it being talking to people in other countries, even people in the United States at some activities that ham radio operators do,” he said.

During the height of Hurricane Ian, his hobby became lifesaving work.

“Ham radio operators in particular are here to help out when all other means of communication just don’t work,” Klonin said.
